01.12.08 - The NAIA Division II 25th-ranked Huntington University Foresters (13-6, 3-2) ended a three-game losing skid with a 72-64 win over Spring Arbor University (11-9, 3-3).

After shooting a very chilly 27% from the field in the first half, HU was fortunate to be down just five at 36-31 at the break.  The Foresters kept the Cougars within striking distance by going 14 for 18 at the charity stripe in the period.

HU opened the second half by aggressively attacking the basket.  They were rewarded with three consecutive trips to the free throw line and evened the score at 36 less than two minutes in.  With the Foresters up 42-40, Doug Sheckler scored on a lay-up at the 16 minute mark which led to an 11-0 HU run over the next four minutes. Spring Arbor cut it to eight at 55-47, but HU responded with a 9-2 spurt giving the Foresters their largest lead of the game at 64-49 with 6:12 to play.  The Cougars again fought back within eight with just over 2 minutes to go, but they could get no closer down the stretch.

HU’s Sheckler took game-high honors with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the game.  Joining Sheckler in double figures for the Foresters was Kyle Benge with 15, Kevin Kyle with 13 and Luke Smith with 11.  Kevin Ludwig led Spring Arbor with 17 points while Josh Brandt and Darby Decker each finished with 15.
