01.16.08 - With a 20-point cushion five minutes into the second
half, the Foresters (14-6,
4-2) looked to have things under control, but had to withstand an
Indiana Wesleyan mad dash to the finish to pull off the 61-58 victory
over the Wildcats. After
trading baskets early, HU took the lead for good at 8-6 on a Tyler
Shively three at the 16:08 mark. A 9-0 run later in the half put
the Foresters up by 10 and a Kyle Benge trey in the final minute of
the half gave them a 12-point margin at 31-19 as they headed to the
locker rooms.
HU seemed to take
command of the game with a 13-5 spurt to open the second stanza,
increasing its advantage to 44-24 with 15:36 to play. But
Indiana Wesleyan mounted a furious comeback that brought them within
one at 59-58 with 49 ticks left. The Wildcats were then forced
to foul, but had only committed four in the half, so they had to foul
quickly and finally sent Doug Sheckler to the line. He missed the
front end, but Benge stole the ball back from Antonio Murrell.
Indiana Wesleyan then fouled Benge with 15 seconds left and he drained
both free throws to give HU a 61-58 lead. Jon Moon's 3-point
attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.
Indiana Wesleyan's Murrell took game-high honors with 25 points in the
game. Benge lead the Foresters with 15 points and Sheckler
chipped in 10 points and eight boards.
