- The Foresters evened their record at 2-2 on the season with a big 77-75
upset over NAIA #4-ranked Cedarville University (0-1).
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 13-5 lead and looked ready to put
the game away early. But HU got a spark off the bench from
Andrew Mock who scored five consecutive points for the Foresters to
bring HU within 15-12 at the midway point of the half. The
Foresters kept the momentum and took their first lead of the game at
23-22 on two charity tosses from Kevin Kyle at the 5:56 mark.
The score remained close the rest of the half and ended in a 30-30
tie.
The Yellow Jackets
regrouped at the break and outscored HU 9-2 to begin the second half.
Again the Foresters fought back and evened the score at 39 with 14:02
to play. The two teams continued to trade baskets until HU took
the lead for good at 56-55 on a Doug Sheckler jumper with just under
eight minutes to go. A trey from Tyler Shively gave the
Foresters a 67-62 lead with 2:08 left on the clock and Sheckler went
6-6 at the line down the stretch to pull off the upset.
Sheckler took
team-high honors with 22 points for the Foresters. Kevin Kyle chipped in
a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards and Mock finished with 12
points and five assists. Cedarville's Ryan Short took game-high honors
with 30 points and Chris Beals added 17. Ricardo Alliman grabbed
12 rebounds in the contest.
HU finished the
game shooting 43.5% (30-69) from the field while Cedarville was 29-69
for 42%. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Foresters 48-37.
