The Foresters (5-2) made it five wins in a row with a convincing 96-73
victory on the road over a previously undefeated St. Xavier University
(5-1). HU ‘s hot shooting was the difference in the game as Foresters
sizzled the nets at better than 65% from the field in both halves and
finished the game 36-54 for 67%. Distance didn’t seem to matter much
as HU also shot 64% (9-14) from behind the arc.
The Foresters were able to build a double-digit lead early in the
first half and led by 20, 45-25, at the halftime break. In the second
half, SXU tried to make a run scoring 48 points in the period, but HU
kept control with continued sharp shooting and dropped in 51 points of
their own to hand the Cougars their first loss of the season.
Leading the Forester barrage from the field was Doug Sheckler with a
12-14 shooting performance for a game-high 26 points. Kyle Benge hit
9 of 12 attempts off the bench for 22. Tyler Shively was 5-7,
including 3-4 from downtown and 4-4 from the line for 17 and he dished
out eight assists. Kevin Kyle finished with another double-double
with 15 points and a game-high 11 boards and Luke Smith was a perfect
4-4 from the field and 2-2 at the stripe for 11 off the bench. Alok
Aiyar led SXU in scoring with 16 points.
HU edged the Cougars in rebounds 35-34 and committed 15 turnovers to
13 for SXU.
