The NAIA 12th-ranked Huntington University Foresters (10-3)
used a 25-4 run over the final 5:17 of the first half to take a
commanding 55-31 lead at the break and were never really challenged in
the second half as they rolled over Calumet College of St. Joseph
(7-5) 100-80.
The visiting Crimson
Wave took an early 8-4 lead on a trey from Andrew Anderson three
minutes into the contest, but HU responded with a 5-0 run to go on top
9-8 and took the lead for good at 21-18 on a Geoff Scheetz three at
the 11:23 mark. Calumet continued to battle and was still within
three at 30-27 with 5:53 left in the half when a Tyler Shively jumper
ignited the decisive 25-4 Forester run to end the half.
HU
continued where it left off as the second half began. The Foresters
pushed their advantage to as many as 38 at the midpoint of the
period. Over the final 10 minutes, the Crimson Wave crept back within
19 at 95-76 at the 2:41 mark, but it would be as close as they would
get.
HU’s Kyle Benge took game-high honors with 19 points in the contest.
He was joined in double figures by Kevin Kyle with 17, Doug Sheckler
with 16 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, Kellen Zawadzki with 13
off the bench and Shively with 12. Marcellus Phelps led Calumet with
18 off the bench. Tom Radtke chipped in a double-double with 16
points and a game-high 14 boards.
