12.01.07 - Down by as many as five in the first half, the Foresters grabbed a four -point lead at the break and dominated the second half to defeat Marian College 80-64 in their Mid-Central Conference opener.

The Knights led much of the first half and had HU down 23-18 midway through the period.  The Foresters jumped in front for the first time on a Neil Stoffel steal that led to a Kyle Benge three-point play and a 31-29 lead at the 2:03 mark.  Marian knotted it at 31, but Stoffel and Benge each scored down the stretch to give the Foresters a 35-31 edge at intermission.

HU put on a shooting clinic in the second half, shooting 73% (16-22) from the field while holding the Knights to 13 of 39 shooting for 33%. The Foresters opened the second half with a 17-10 run to take a double digit lead at 52-41 with 13:39 to play. The Knights cut it to eight at 55-47 with 10:26 on the clock, but it was as close as they would get.

Doug Sheckler took game-high honors with 19 points and 11 boards for HU.  Benge finished with 17 points and Kevin Kyle added 16.  Jordan Tucker scored 18 off the bench to pace the Knights.  Brandon Malone chipped in 11 and Anthony Furlin and Brandon Callahan each had 10.

With both teams hitting 26 field goals and eight three-pointers in the game, the Foresters won the game at the line where they were 20 of 23 while Marian was just 4-10 at the stripe.  The Foresters topped Marian 35-29 in the battle of the boards.
