02.20.08 - The Foresters (21-8, 11-4) made it five straight victories with their 89-71 win over Goshen College (19-10, 7-8), but were dealt a big blow when they lost Doug Sheckler to a season-ending injury 15 minutes into the contest.

HU took an early 4-0 lead, but Goshen responded with nine straight points forcing Coach Platt to call a timeout.  Following the break, Sheckler got HU back on track with two quick scores in the paint and Kyle Benge gave HU the lead for good at 21-20 on a jumper at the 10:27 mark. Benge's shot sparked a 15-6 run for the Foresters that put them on top 36-26 with five minutes to go in the first half.

On Goshen's next possession, HU's Kellen Zawadzki stole the ball from Nate West and hit Sheckler on the run for what looked like an easy dunk. But as he went up, Sheckler appeared to be bumped and he came down awkwardly on his right arm, bringing Sheckler's Senior Night and Forester career to an abrupt end.

Despite Sheckler being sidelined, HU was able to maintain its lead thanks to Benge and Luke Smith who combined to score the final eleven Forester points of the half, sending the team to the locker room with a 49-40 advantage.

Goshen kept things interesting through the first seven minutes of the second half, denying HU's attempts to extend the nine-point half-time margin. Then fueled by a pair of Zawadzki treys, the Foresters finally put the game out of reach with an 11-0 run, giving HU a commanding 78-58 lead with 9:01 to play. The Maple Leafs got back within 12, but late threes from Benge and Zawadzki put the finishing touches on a Forester victory.

HU put five players in double digits with Benge's 21 leading the way. Kevin Kyle chipped in with 18 points and eight rebounds and Luke Smith came off the bench to score 15 points. Tyler Shively finished with 13 and Zawadzki chipped in 12.  Goshen’s Errick McCollum topped all scorers in the game with 22 points and he was joined in double figures by Brice Hartman with 17 and Nate West with 15.
