- After falling behind by double digits midway through the second half, the
Foresters couldn't catch the University of St. Francis Cougars down
the stretch and fell 94-87.
The visitors took the early lead on a
three from Kreigh Hentrup, but the Foresters didn't allow St. Francis
to get away from them. Caleb Kennedy gave HU its first lead of
the contest at 15-14 on two free throws at the 13 minute mark.
Over the next four minutes, Kellen Zawadzki and Kyle Benge then
combined for 14 points to increase HU's advantage to 10 at 29-19 with
8:56 left in the period. The Cougars fought back to even the
score at 35-35 with 5:07 on the clock and out-scored the Foresters
12-5 down the stretch to take a 47-40 lead at the break.
HU emerged from the
locker room and netted the first six points of the second half to pull
back within one. Again the Foresters kept St. Francis within
striking distance through the midpoint of the half, but the Cougars
used a 10-2 spurt to make it a 12-point spread with 7:45 to play.
HU battled back within five twice in the final minute, but could get
no closer.
Kevin Kyle took
game-high honors with 25 points in the game for the Foresters.
Zawadzki finished with 22 and Benge had 19. Hentrup paced St.
Francis with 24 points. DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis chipped in 19
points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Cougars went 32
for 55 from the field in the winning effort for 58.2% while HU was 30
for 60 for 50%. St. Francis out-rebounded the Foresters 34-26.
