- The Foresters travelled to Grace College looking to split the season series
with the Lancers, but HU (15-9, 4-6) couldn't overcome a poor
shooting performance, both from the field and the line, and fell
101-77. The
Lancers put the first seven points on the board, but HU reeled them
back in with a 10-2 run. The resulting 10-9 lead at the 14:08
mark would turn out to be the Foresters' only lead of the game.
HU was still within two at 16-14 near the mid-point of the half when
Grace put together a 15-5 run to take a 12-point lead with just
under seven minutes to go in the period. Another 17-7 spurt
gave the Lancers a 20-point advantage with 1:49 left and they headed
to intermission up 16 at 49-33.
The Foresters got
within 13 at 56-43 at the 17:10 mark of the second half, but it was
as close as they would get. Grace continued to dominate at the
offensive end with its largest lead coming at 93-64 with 4:12 left
on the clock. The Lancers then cruised to the 24-point victory.
Kyle Benge topped
three Foresters in double-figures in the contest with 27 points.
Kevin Kyle added 12 and Luke Smith finished with 11. Michael
Wienhorst took game-high honors with 28 points for Grace. Eric
Gaff chipped in a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds and
David Henry had 13 points.
HU struggled from
the field hitting 28 of 76 field goal attempts for just 37% for the
game. The Foresters, who are leading NAIA Division II in free
throw percentage at 80.6%, also had an uncharacteristic day at the
line hitting just 15 of 24 attempts for 63%. The Lancers shot
54% (31-57) from the field and were 29-35 at the stripe for 82.9%.
