11.01.08 - The Foresters headed to the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois for their season opener and fell 84-70 to the Fighting Saints.

The lead went back and forth through the first 10 minutes of play as both teams worked out their opening game jitters.  At the 9:25 mark, Tristan Therkield hit a jumper to break a 17-17 tie and spark a 9-0 run for the Saints.

HU's Kellen Zawadzki stopped the streak with a layup and ignited a 10-0 run which put the Foresters back on top by a point at 27-26 with 5:36 to go in the half.  The lead was short-lived as St. Francis put together a 17-3 spurt to close out the half and take a 43-30 advantage to the break.

The Saints were able to maintain their double digit lead throughout most of the second half with their biggest margin coming at 70-52 at the 7:13 mark.  HU finally put together a few stops on the defensive end and whittled St. Francis' lead down to eight at 70-62 with 5:11 to play, but it was as close as they would get.

Kyle Benge topped all scorers in the contest with 23 points for the Foresters.  He was joined in double figures by Kevin Kyle with 13, Zawadzki with 11 and Alex Nafziger with 10.  Kevin Kyle and Nafziger both had double-double in the game with 11 and 10 rebounds respectively. St. Francis was led by Therkield and Jeff Miller who scored 16 points apiece.
