- For the first time this season, the Foresters had a healthy lineup and the
results showed it. HU took care of NAIA Division I Saint
Xavier University 102-89 to move to 5-3 on the season.
The first five
minutes looked more like a chess match with each move countered by
the other. As the lead changed hands for the sixth time in
that span, the Foresters went up 10-9 on a jumper by Kevin Kyle, a
move that would eventually led to checkmate for HU.
Kyle's field goal
ignited a 10-2 run that gave the Foresters an 18-11 advantage with
13:36 to go in the half. Saint Xavier got back within four at
24-20, but HU out-scored the Cougars 27-14 over the remainder of the
period to take a 51-34 lead at the break.
Saint Xavier
regrouped in the locker room and immediately got back in the game
with a 17-5 spurt in just over six minutes of play to open the
second half. The run got the Cougars within four at 58-54 and they
looked to have HU on the defensive. A 3-pointer by Luke Smith
put a stop to the run and sparked a 16-6 answer that put the
Foresters back in control with a 74-60 lead at the 9:48 mark.
Saint Xavier would not be able to get within single digits the rest
of the way and HU earned the 13-point victory.
The final
statistics were a good indicator of the health of the Foresters as
six of them made their way into double figures in the contest.
Kyle topped the list with 21 points and 11 rebounds followed by Kyle
Benge with 20 points and 11 assists, Andrew Mock and Tyler Shively
each with 16 points, Luke Smith with 15 and Kellen Zawadzki with 14.
Bob Broughton led four Cougars in double digits with a game-high 22
points.
