- With two players already sidelined with an injury (Bobby Jolliff) or
illness (Tyler Shively), the Foresters (0-2) lost another to injury
four minutes into the Indiana Tech contest when Andrew Mock went
down. HU fell behind early in the game, rallied late, but ultimately
came up two points short as they fell 71-69 to the Warriors.
Indiana Tech scored
the first two points of the game and led 12-5 before the Foresters
began to find some rhythm at the offensive end. HU cut the deficit
to two at 16-14, but eight unanswered points gave the Warriors a
24-14 led midway through the half. Again HU rallied to within
two at 30-28, but a 15-6 Indiana Tech run over the final four
minutes of the period gave the home team an 11-point advantage 45-34
at the break.
Early in the
second half, Indiana Tech was able to maintain its lead and was
still up 58-46 at the 14:33 mark. At that point, senior Kyle
Benge took over for HU. Benge scored 11 of the Foresters' next
14 points to help HU pull even at 60-60 with 9:38 to play.
But the Foresters
didn't stop there. They then took their first lead of the game
on a field goal by Neil Stoffel and score four more points to take a
66-60 lead at the 5:41 mark. The lead was short-lived as the
Warriors knotted the score at 69 with 2:36 remaining. A putback by
Tim Browning returned the lead to Indiana Tech with 1:28 to play and
it would become the eventual gamewinner. After trading misses,
HU got the ball back with 15 ticks left. The Warrior defense
held as Kellen Zawadzki missed a three at the buzzer.
HU's Luke Smith
led all scorers in the game with 21 points on 8-15 shooting
including 5-7 from behind the arc. Benge finished with 20 points and
five assists and Kevin Kyle chipped in a double-double with 11
points and 11 boards. Browning led the Warriors with his own
double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
