- Huntington
University senior guard Kyle Benge scored a game-high 25 points to
help lead the Foresters to a 91-79 victory over a feisty Trinity
International University squad. With the win, Huntington improves
to 9-4 on the season.
The visiting Trojans
got off to a quick start scoring the first six points of the contest
and they pushed their lead to seven at 19-12 at the 12:27 mark. A
Benge jumper and two charity tosses cut the margin to three and a
Neil Stoffel layup got the Foresters back within one at 19-18 midway
through the period. Huntington knotted the score at 23-23, but
again Trinity ran off six consecutive points to reclaim the lead.
The Foresters fought back and evened the score at 31-31 with 4:50 to
go in the half and then out-scored the Trojans 15-7 down the stretch
to take a 46-38 advantage to the break.
Trinity cut its deficit in half at 52-48 three
minutes in the second stanza, but again it was Benge that sparked
another Forester run, this time with a long three. Huntington put
together a 14-2 run giving the Foresters a double digit lead they
would not relinquish. The Trojans got within 11 on a couple
occasions, but it was as close as they would get as Huntington
recorded the 12-point victory.
Joining Benge in double figures for the Foresters was
Kevin Kyle with 13, Luke Smith with 11 and Tyler Shively and Kellen
Zawadzki both with 10. Patrick Atkins led Trinity with 19 points.
Chris Gardner added 17 and Tyrone Smith finished with 16. Ignas
Verbus grabbed a game-high eight boards.
