12.27.08 - The Huntington University Foresters stepped up their defensive pressure in the second half and tamed the feisty Mustangs of Marygrove College to pick up the 91-74 victory.

The Foresters got off to a quick start at 12-2 and made it a 12-point margin at 16-4 on an Andrew Mock jumper at the 14:05 mark.  Marygrove battled back within six at 18-12 three minutes later and remained within single digits until the Mustangs knotted the score at 31-31 with five minutes to play in the half.  The Foresters responded with four consecutive points to reclaim the lead and headed to the locker room holding a slim 40-38 advantage.

Marygrove emerged from the break and scored the first four points of the second half to take a 42-40 lead.  Huntington came back with an 11-3 run to go back in front 51-45.  After trading baskets over the next two minutes, the Foresters’ defense took command of the game.  Huntington held the Mustangs scoreless for a two minute stretch and turned a six point lead into a double-digit advantage at 62-49 that they would never give up.  Marygrove battled back within 10 at the 4:57 mark, but could get no closer.  The Foresters knocked down 13 of 14 charity tosses down the stretch to seal the 17-point victory.

Kyle Benge and Caleb Kennedy both scored 17 points to pace Huntington’s offense.  Kevin Kyle finished with 14 points and a game-high nine boards.  Kellen Zawadzki and Tyler Shively chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.  Marcus Hopkins topped all scorers in the game with 19 points for the Mustangs.  Teammate Justin McKinney finished with 11 and Michael Jackson added 10 off the bench.

The Foresters (11-4) went 31-60 from the field for 51.7% while Marygrove was 29-72 for 40.3%.  Huntington out-rebounded the Mustangs 47-32.
