- The Huntington University men’s
basketball program will retire the uniform number of former Forester
standout, Alex Kock, in a ceremony Tuesday before Huntington’s home
game against Indiana Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m.
Kock transferred to Huntington University in the fall of 2004 and his
impact on the Forester program was immediate. As a sophomore, he
helped lead Huntington to a 22-11 record with his team-high 18.3
points and 8.3 boards per game. He was named the MCC Player of the
Year and was a NAIA Second Team All-America selection.
During his junior year, Kock elevated his game another level scoring
21.2 points and grabbing 8.4 rebounds each contest. His
contributions were instrumental in helping the Foresters compile a
32-6 record and secure a spot in the NAIA Division II National
Championship game in Branson, Missouri. His accomplishments earned
him several accolades throughout the season including the program’s
first NAIA National Player of the Week honor, a repeat of his MCC
Player of the Year honor and a NAIA First Team All-America
selection.
Kock continued his upward spiral as a senior averaging a
double-double with 23.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. With his
leadership, the Foresters went 29-5 on the season and returned to
the NAIA National tournament for the sixth consecutive year. He
capped off his stellar career by earning the program’s first NAIA
Division II National Player of the Year award and third straight MCC
Player of the Year honor.
Kock
completed his career as a Forester with 2,182 points placing him
fifth on Huntington’s all-time scorers’ list. He graduated from
Huntington University in May of 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in
Physical Education and Health. Currently, Kock teaches
physical education at Huntington North High School and serves as the
boys' basketball junior varsity coach.
