Ty
Platt
Head Coach
Head Coach Ty Platt
enters his second year at the helm of the Forester basketball
program. Continuing the winning tradition, Platt guided the
Foresters to their 8th consecutive 20 win season going
20-12 during the 2008-2009 campaign. Along with beating several
ranked opponents, the team set five new school records and once
again led the nation in free throw shooting. “Last season was very
productive and successful, but make no mistake, we want to get back
to Branson in 09-10”, said Platt.
Platt enters his 18th year of coaching basketball. After
earning his bachelor’s degree from Taylor University in 1992, he
spent a year as the assistant coach for his former coach Paul
Patterson. After the one season at Taylor, he took the head boys
basketball coaching position at Southwestern High School in Hanover,
Indiana, as the youngest High School coach in the state at the time.
Platt made an immediate impact on the program, leading the team to a
conference title, while earning Coach of the Year honors. After back
to back winning seasons, he then took over as Head Coach at Columbus
East High School in Columbus, Indiana. While in Columbus, Platt
guided the Olympian basketball program to its first Sectional Title
in eight years. Four years later Platt returned closer to home to
head the Norwell High School boys basketball program, a position he
held for 6 years. After winning more than 125 games as a head coach
at the high school level, Platt came to Huntington as the Associate
Head Coach under his father, Steve Platt, a position he held for
three years.
As a player in the very successful Taylor University basketball
program, Platt scored over 1100 points, grabbed over 500 rebounds,
was an All-District player and was the 1992 Trojan Athlete of the
Year. He helped lead the Trojans to three NAIA National Tournament
appearances, including a Final Four appearance in 1991 when the NAIA
had only one division.
Platt has taught for 17 years, currently teaching Psychology and
Health at Norwell High School. He and his wife, Brenda, have three
children, Kyle (14), Konner(11), and Kalee (10).

Mark Green
Assistant Coach
Mark Green enters
his fourth season as the assistant basketball coach for the
Foresters. Green brings a variety of coaching experiences to the
position. In 1993-1995, he coached the freshmen boys’ basketball
team at Columbia City High School and compiled a 32-8 record during
his two years in the position. During his five-year stint as an
employee here at HU, he was able to make use of his athletic
experience and degree in physical education by serving at various
times as an assistant coach for the men’s soccer, golf and track
teams.
Under Coach Platt,
Green’s coaching responsibilities mainly include recruiting,
administrative duties, and building relationships with the players.
Green is also in his third season as the Foresters'
head golf coach.
Last year Green led his Forester golf team
to an MCC conference title. The win gave the Foresters an automatic
bid to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship. It marked
the first time in school history that HU has qualified as a team for the event.
As a
student-athlete for the Foresters, Green was a four-year letter winner in both
soccer and track and field. While successful in both sports, he left his mark
in track and field. Upon his graduation, Green held both the Mid-Central
Conference and Huntington College records in the pole vault. His 15’0” vault
still stands in the college’s record books.
Green, his wife
Joanne and their son Tyler live in Columbia City where he serves as the
Director of Parks and Recreation.
