- The eighth-seeded Foresters and ninth-seeded Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats met
for the second time this season with an opportunity to continue in the MCC
Tournament riding on the outcome. HC rose to the challenge with a 3-1 win,
and will now travel to Mishawaka on Saturday to face the top-seeded Bethel
College Pilots at 2:00 p.m. Both sides created excellent scoring chances,
but it was the Foresters who got on the board first when Ben Gayed netted a
header off a feed from Joel Sanders with 20 minutes left in the first half.
Six minutes later, Sanders dished his second assist of the day to Andrew Wust
who took the pass off his chest, played it to his feet, and then shot it past
the Wildcats' keeper to give HC the 2-0 lead. Indiana Wesleyan fought back
to within one with a goal in the 34th minute to bring the half-time score to
2-1. Ten minutes into the second half, Sanders was taken down in the box by
IWU's keeper. Luke Caldwell's ensuing penalty kick found the back of the net
to restore HC's two-goal lead. HC's defense held the Wildcats scoreless the
rest of the way. "I am very proud of the boys," said Coach Lawson. "That
kind of sustained effort all game was special. They deserved the result and
the chance to play Bethel on Saturday." The win moves the Foresters to 7-8-2
