| 9.14.04 - The Foresters
controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish and blanked Hanover
College 3-0. HC got some help on their first goal of the game.
Forester keeper, Courtney Hamilton, punted the ball beyond the Panther
defense creating a scramble for the ball as it entered the box. In an
effort to clear the ball, the Hanover sweeper headed the ball toward his
keeper, but it sailed over his head and into the net. The fluke goal
was the only score of the half. Early in the second half, HC went down
a man when David Callahan was issued a red card. The Foresters were
able to re-grouped and scored a short-handed goal on a penalty kick from Luke
Caldwell in the 59th minute. HC continued to possess the ball the
majority of the half and added a third goal in the 70th minute on a Jarrod
Bennett pass to Joel Sanders for the score. "It was a terrific
team effort tonight," said Coach Lawson. "We faced adversity
and still came away with a decisive result. It's a true testimony to
the hearts of these men." For the game, the Foresters out-shot
Hanover 8-3 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. The win brings
the men even at 3-3 on the season. |
