| 9-25-04 - A questionable
"no-call" and an own goal proved too much for the Foresters to
overcome as the fell 4-3 in their MCC opener against the University of St.
Francis. HC struck early when Joel Sanders sent a cross that found
David Callahan at the far post for a header into the back of the net in the
fourth minute of play. Four minutes later, the Cougars answered back to
knot the score at one apiece, which is where the score remained for the rest
of the half. The Foresters got things started again in the second half
when Seth Caldwell played a nice ball to his brother Luke, who beat a
defender and drilled it past the keeper. Midway through the half, Seth
Caldwell was taken down outside the box, allowing Sanders to bend a free kick
around the wall into the upper corner of the goal to give HC a 3-1 lead.
St. Francis then capitalized on a questionable play when HC keeper, Jarrod
Bennett dropped the ball after contact with a Cougar forward, who put away
the goal. The Foresters then gifted the Cougars the equalizer as a
poorly cleared header found its way over Bennett and into the net. St.
Francis got the go-ahead goal in the 70th minute and held off the Foresters
the rest of the way. "We took a little while to establish
ourselves, but our possession was strong once we relaxed and played
confidently," said Coach Lawson. "We created good scoring
chances and finished beautifully. It's exciting to see us combining for
creative passing and scoring opportunities. With the loss, the men fall
to 4-4 on year and are 0-1 in conference play. |
