- Huntington University soccer
coach Russ
Lawson announced the addition of Tyler Welker to the 2005 roster.
Welker comes to the Foresters with excellent high school credentials.
He started his first three years at Graham High School in Virginia
where he was twice named to the All-Southwest District Honorable
Mention team and the First Team as a junior. Welker completed his high
school career at Wooster High School near Cleveland, Ohio. He made an
immediate impact and received Ohio Cardinal Conference Honorable
Mention honors.
“Tyler plays the game with great
intensity and at a pace that I feel will add to our team speed, stated
Coach Lawson. Quickness and physical play are a couple of the biggest
barriers to overcome at the collegiate level and as a forward we are
looking for Tyler’s transition to be smooth allowing him to challenge
our returning players for minutes up front.”
Welker also made a tremendous impact on his
classmates at Wooster, earning the Sportsmanship Award and a Scholar-Athlete award . Welker is
transferring from the Pittsburg Art Institute and will enter
Huntington this fall as an honor student. He will be one of the first
students to embark on Huntington’s newly developed Digital Media Arts
program.
Tyler is the son of Rodd and Martha Welker of
Wooster, Ohio. |
