10.29.05 - As the #8 seed in the MCC Tournament, the Foresters needed to play a flawless game to have a shot at upsetting the top-seeded Bethel College Pilots, but the Pilots capitalized on a couple HU miscues to earn the 3-0 victory and send the Foresters home.

Eight minutes into the game, miscommunication between two HU defenders led to a poor clearance.  The ball found its way to the foot of Hugo Gonzalez, the reigning MCC Player of the Year, and he knew exactly what to do with it.  Both teams remained scoreless the rest of the half.

In the second half, the Pilots again struck early when Juan de la Loza out-maneuvered two Forester defenders and sent a perfect cross to Alberto Sanchis who headed the ball past HU keeper Pete Datema four minutes into the half.  Bethel put the game out of reach with a third goal midway through the half.  Datema, who had a solid game in goal with 11 saves, bobbled a save attempt and an opportunistic Thiago Pinto sent the rebound home.

"I am proud of the guys," said Coach Lawson.  "They performed well and played with a great deal of intensity and composure.  Bethel was the dominant team, but a game like this one shows us that we are closer to turning the program around than our record might indicate.  "We stayed together as a team and we went 2-2 in our final four games.  I am most proud of the guys for their perseverance through our many challenges this season."

The Foresters conclude their season schedule with a record of 4-14.
