- With the sun
shining and the temperatures just
perfect for soccer, over 150 players on 16 teams gathered for the 6th
Annual Huntington 7v7 Men’s Soccer Tournament. Among those
participating were three teams of past and present Forester players
which combined to produce a 2-5-2 record on the day. “I was
encouraged by the great talent that was on display,” stated HU’s men’s
soccer coach Russ Lawson. “The ability to run a quality tournament
such as this is a nice feather in the cap for our program. I envision
this day only getting bigger as we continue to build on this
tournament’s reputation.”
It was an
action-packed day of soccer. The round robin pool play produced many
classic battles with Mount Vernon Nazarene (2 teams), Tri-State, and
Taylor eventually advancing to the playoffs. Tri-State clashed with
MVNU (2) in one semifinal game earning a berth into the finals with a
6-4 win. Joining Tri-State in the final was Taylor who was able to
push past MVNU (1) by a score of 4-2. The finals saw Taylor claim the
title with a 4-3 win over Tri-State.
