This
past week the Huntington
University
men’s soccer program had the opportunity to travel to
Tampa,
Florida
on a short-term mission trip. Three coaches and twenty-one players
representing five different countries and six states gathered for the
first time with a willingness to serve in the hot south.
The
team volunteered at three local churches and partnered with the YMCA for
another outreach. “Whether it was renovating a playground for the
Haitian children, volunteering for Elder Link of Tampa, laying fifteen
pallets of sod, or running a soccer clinic, we were truly blessed by our
time spent in Florida,”
said Coach Lawson. “Not only were the
churches, organizations and individuals blessed, but we
immediately felt the blessings as well.
Others local companies, churches, and families unexpectedly jumped on
board with us with such generosity that it can only be explained by God
and His love for His people. It was overwhelming.”
Another byproduct
that came as a result of the trip was the unity
the team developed.
“The men came together as a team; they didn’t shy away from hard work
under extreme heat and we all witnessed God’s power as He moved us and
others to serve,” stated Coach Russ Lawson. “This was a fabulous
opportunity for us all, a journey filled with many memories that I am sure
will last a lifetime.”
