| 10.10.06 - The
NAIA 10th-ranked Bethel College Pilots
had their hands full
with a feisty Forester squad, but were able to hold off HU for the 2-1
win. Although
the majority of the first half was played in the midfield, both teams
generated a quality scoring opportunity. Bethel's keeper, Scott
Terry, came up with a big save to stop a breakaway attempt by Joel
Sanders, but the Pilots were able to capitalize on their opportunity
with just under eight minutes until halftime.
In the second half,
Bethel came out firing on all cylinders and put the Foresters on their
heels. The Pilots punched in their second goal just over a
minute into the half. But HU didn't go away and continued to
battle. Sanders finally got the Foresters on the board with six
minutes left in regulation off an assist from James Holliday, but they
couldn't come up with the equalizer.
"I was pleased with
our effort tonight," said Coach Lawson. "Bethel is a quality team that
isn't going to gift you many opportunities, and yet we were able to
create solid scoring chances. This is a hard-working, talented
team and their day is coming."
The loss
drops HU to 4-9-1 on the season and 1-5 in the MCC. |
