| 10.14.06 - The
Foresters (4-9-2, 1-5-1) came within an eyelash of handing Goshen
College (10-4-1, 4-0-1) its first loss in conference play, but a Maple
Leaf goal with 23 ticks left in regulation spoiled the upset bid.
Two overtimes later, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
After playing to a scoreless tie at
intermission, HU ended the drought with a goal in the 54th minute.
With an assist from Marc William, Joel Sanders gave the Foresters the
lead with a strike from 25 yards out.
HU then went into a defensive mode to
try to protect the lead, but Goshen took advantage and mounted
numerous attacks. Their persistence finally paid off as Joel
Miller headed in the equalizer with 23 seconds remaining.
"I am pleased with the way the guys
played tonight - they showed great character being able to deal with
the disappointment of giving up a goal with 23 seconds left to the #1
team in the MCC and not fold in overtime," said Coach Lawson. "I
hope we can come away from this with the confidence of knowing that we
can play with the best in the conference."
HU's Matt Boyer had seven saves while
Goshen's Craig Wescott had five. |
