| 09.16.06 - On a
trip south over the weekend, the Foresters finished with a double
overtime 1-1 tie against the College of Mount St. Joseph on Friday and
a 2-0 loss to Asbury College on Saturday.
On Friday, HU's Joel Sanders netted a
direct kick with under a minute left in the first half to give the
Foresters a 1-0 lead. Mount St. Joseph evened the match in the
71st minute on a goal by Brian Ayers. With seven minutes left in
regulation, the Foresters missed an opportunity to get the game-winner
when they failed to put away a penalty kick. The two extra
periods of play ended in a stalemate.
"Despite playing in a hostile
environment, we had our chances to finish, but were unable to
capitalize on our efforts," said Coach Lawson.
A slow start on Saturday put HU on the
defensive immediately and they ended up playing on their heels most of
the game against Asbury. The Eagles found an opening two minutes
into the contest to put themselves up 1-0 and they put it out of reach
with a second goal midway through the second half.
"We had a sluggish start," said Coach
Lawson. "Coming off an overtime game the night before was a tall
order for our young team and we did not respond particularly well.
Our best soccer came in the final 20 minutes, so I'm proud of them for
not giving up."
The Foresters now stand at 3-4-1 on the
season as they head into conference play on Saturday. |
