03.28.07 - Huntington University Men’s Soccer Coach Russ Lawson is pleased to introduce Eric Bjorndal from Frederick, Maryland as the latest member of the 2007 incoming class.

As a member of Thomas Johnson High School, the 2006 Class 4A State Champions, Bjorndal’s all-around game was showcased. Whether he was creating space and taking on defenders in the final third or anchoring the back line as a senior stopper, Bjorndal played a vital role for a team that rattled off 17 consecutive wins while amassing an 89.5% winning percentage.  As a striker during his previous two seasons, Bjorndal was named to the All State Honorable Mention MVAL as a sophomore and All State Second Team MVAL as a junior.  He finished his career with 11goals and five assists.

“The coaching staff is thrilled that Eric has decided to continue his playing career at Huntington,” said Coach Lawson. “His grit and determination coupled with an excellent touch on the ball will enable Eric to remain versatile at the collegiate level. His 6-foot, 178 pound frame will help him transition quickly to the speed and physical play of the Mid-Central Conference,” added Lawson.

Bjorndal has followed closely in his father and grandfather’s footsteps.  His grandfather was a professional soccer player in Norway back in the 30’s and his father is a Youth for Christ regional director.  Aside from his high school soccer activities, Bjorndal also was a student leader in Youth for Christ, which enabled him to be one of Huntington University’s Merillat YFC Award recipients for the upcoming year. On campus, Bjorndal will pursue a degree in business.

Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Huntington, IN, with an enrollment of approximately 1000 students.  Athletically, HU is a member of the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) and competes in fourteen NAIA intercollegiate sports for both men and women.

Eric is the son of Arn and Linda Bjorndal from Frederick, Maryland.
