| 10.03.07 - The
University of St. Francis, the top team in the MCC standings, came to
town looking to keep their undefeated conference record intact.
HU gave the Cougars a scare holding a one goal lead twice in the
match, but St. Francis was able to survive with a 3-2 victory in
overtime. Eight minutes into the
match, HU grabbed the early lead when Joel Sanders
outraced his
defender to a
Brad Kunze pass and slotted the ball beneath a sliding keeper.
St. Francis pulled even with a goal at the 31:56 mark and the half
ended in the 1-1 tie.
As the second half
began, the Foresters quickly re-claimed the lead. Andrew Wust
slammed home a rebound from a shot taken by Sam Schoutko a little less
then three minutes into the period. HU maintained the lead and
had several quality opportunities to increase it throughout the half,
but it was the Cougars that finally capitalized with the equalizer
with five minutes left in regulation.
Seven minutes into
overtime, St. Francis' Ryan Crawford headed in the game-winner.
Kevin Keske had nine saves in goal for HU and the Cougars' Nick Morken
recorded 10. Both teams generated 12 shots on goal.
"A loss like this
inflicts such great pain because we did so many things well tonight,"
said Coach Lawson. "We composed, we attacked, we won our fare share of
50/50’s, and we generated numerous scoring opportunities. St. Francis
is a quality team, we just couldn’t put away that 3rd goal
in the second half to go up two."
With the loss, the
Foresters fall to 5-6 on the season and 0-4 in the MCC. |
