After winning their
season opener on Friday, the Foresters fell 3-1 to Aquinas College at
the University of St. Francis Classic.
A very talented Saint
squad put a lot of pressure on HU’s defense, but the Foresters held
their ground through much of the first half. Aquinas finally drew
first blood with seven minutes to go in the half. The Foresters
responded a minute later when Marvin Martinez sent a cross to Marc
William who headed it home to even the score.
The second half looked much the same with the Saints applying the
pressure and HU looking for opportunities to counter off of Aquinas'
aggressive play. Again the Forester defense put forth a gallant
effort, but eventually gave up the game-winner with five minutes to
play. The Saints third goal came in the waning seconds as HU pushed
everyone up to try to even the match.
“Aquinas is a
very good team that will likely be one of the top teams in our region
this year,” said Coach Lawson. “Although they carried the advantage
in possession, we had a few opportunities in the second half that
might have changed the complexion of the game.” |
