Although much of the
game was played in a steady downpour, the Foresters had no trouble
taking control in the slick conditions as they routed Bluffton
University 10-2 in their home opener.
Although the Beavers
put up the first score six minutes into the match, HU quickly answered
with the equalizer and then ran away with it. Steven McKay netted
three balls for the Foresters while Andrew Wust and Marvin Martinez
each added two scores. In all, HU tallied 36 shots on goal.
“Our finishing was fantastic today.” said Coach Lawson. “The men were
striking the ball with great confidence and I'm pleased with the
result. We were able to gain momentum by taking care of the ball in
very difficult weather conditions.”
Wust started the scoring for the Foresters by evening the match at 1-1
off an assist from Marc William in the 12th minute. Kyle
Brohm fed William for the go-ahead score at the 18:04 mark. James
Holliday then got in on the act with a score in the 27th
minute and Martinez picked up his first goal off a Brad Kunze pass in
the 31st minute. Bluffton added its second goal at the
38:07 mark, but McKay came back with his first score three minutes
later to make it a 5-2 Forester lead at intermission.
HU continued to dominate in the second half with another five goals.
Aside from goals from McKay (2), Wust and Martinez, Alec Roush also
got in the scoring column for the Foresters with his first goal of the
season in the 78th minute.
For the Foresters in net, Kevin Keske had three saves and Matt Boyer
made seven stops. With the win, HU moves to 3-1 on the season. |
