Heading into their regular season finale, the Foresters were in a
"must win" situation to secure a berth in the postseason conference
tournament. HU battled Marian College and the elements to earn
the 1-0 victory and its first opportunity to play in the postseason
since the fall of 2005. The two
teams played over 75 minutes of scoreless soccer before the
Foresters finally broke through Marian's defense. Jared Boyd
beat his defender on the left flank and drove the ball into the box.
Steven McKay finished a great run by heading the pass into the back
of the net. HU's defense then held down the stretch to shut
out the Knights.
"With
our playoff lives on the line and considering the extreme elements,
the guys played a tremendous game," said Coach Lawson. "We were
solid on both sides of the ball tonight. Our defense was intense,
well organized and I thought our attack was extremely dangerous
generating quality opportunities."
With the win, HU moves to 6-10-2 on
the season and finishes the conference schedule in a tie for seventh
place with a 2-5-1 record. As the seventh seed in the MCC
Tournament, the Foresters will travel to Indiana Wesleyan to take on
the 2nd-seeded Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. |
