After battling for a 1-0 lead, the Foresters let it slip through
there fingers as Bethel College recorded the 2-1 come-from-behind
victory in overtime. HU went
toe to toe with the Pilots for most of the match, but a couple
costly Forester breakdowns was all Bethel needed to steal the win.
After playing to a scoreless tie at the break, Jared Boyd opened the
scoring for the Foresters in the 46th minute of play with a
brilliant strike. After he cut back on a Pilot defender, he
bent the shot around the keeper and into the side netting. Bethel
knotted the score at the 68:55 mark on a fantastic strike of their
own that eluded the outstretched arms of HU keeper Kevin Keske.
Four minutes into overtime, Bethel was able to connect on a header
off a cross to give the Pilots the coveted win.
"Whenever
you have a 1-0 lead on the Pilots with 30 minutes left, you as a
team are doing a solid job," said Coach Lawson. "We did an
excellent job tonight in neutralizing their attack and forcing shots
outside the box. This is extremely disappointing because the guys
once again were knocking on the doorstep to victory. This game
demands energy and concentration for the full 90 minutes and we
didn’t deliver."
With the loss, the Foresters fall to 3-8-2 on
the season and 0-4-1 in MCC play. |
