02.03.09 - Huntington University Men’s Soccer Coach Russ Lawson has announced that Zeeland East High School standout Nick Harmsen has chosen to continue his soccer career at HU.

Not only has Harmsen anchored his team’s defense the past two seasons, he also has played a vital role in guiding his teammates as captain his senior year. This past fall Harmsen was recognized for his work on the field as a Michigan High School First Team All-District Division II player.

“We are very excited that Nick will continue his career at Huntington,” says Lawson. “He is a hard-nosed center back who reads the game well and has the ability to distribute and generate offense.”

Off the field Harmsen has made a tremendous impact in the classroom and will enter Huntington University as an honor student.  Zeeland East Soccer Coach Todd Kamstra said Harmsen “set the standard” of commitment for his teammates throughout the season. Kamstra predicted the defender center back “will do exceptionally well at the collegiate level.”

Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts college located in Huntington, IN, with an enrollment of approximately 1000 students.  Athletically, HU competes in fourteen NAIA intercollegiate sports for both men and women and is a member of the MCC (Mid Central Conference).

Nick is the son of Randy and Bonnie Harmsen from Zeeland, MI.
