ATHLETIC SCHEDULES

As seniors all three played integral roles on one of the top teams in the city.  The Bruins finished a successful year that included several team achievements.  Northrop posted an impressive 11-4-3 record for the season and was Co-Champions of the Summit City Athletic Conference, Canterbury Tournament Champions and IHSAA Sectional Champions.  The three student-athletes also have played club soccer together for Citadel FC. 

On two occasions, Chris Fox earned First Team All-Conference in the SAC as keeper. He had an impressive senior campaign allowing just 1.11 goals against on the season. Fox has great technical ability and is adept at controlling his box which allows him to impact matches at all levels. He also was the starting keeper for Citadel’s 2008 Challenge Cup Championship team. With a 4.1 gpa, Fox, who is the son of Dan and Paula Fox, earned a Soccer Coaches Association Academic All-State certificate and will enter Huntington this fall as a Presidential Scholar honor student studying pre-med.  

Brandon Gamble, the son of Tom and Marjorie Gamble, was selected to the Second Team in the SAC Conference this past year as he led the way for the Bruins in the middle of the park. As a center mid, he closed down the opponent’s linking mid while also providing quality help to his teammates in behind defenses. Last summer Gamble played a crucial role on Citadel’s team that won the Indiana State Challenge Cup. Gamble is also an academic leader.  With his 4.0 gpa, he earned a First Team Academic All State certificate and he will attend Huntington as an HU Honor Student studying the sciences with the goal of one day becoming a pharmacist. 

At right back his senior season, Austin Schenkel also earned Second Team All-SAC honors. He was consistently handed the assignment of winning balls and breaking up attacks. His play was vital as Northrop earned a 1.11 goals against on the season.  For club, Schenkel helped Citadel FC reach the Indiana State Challenge Cup Finals in 2007 as a left back.  Schenkel is also gifted in the classroom.  He earned a First Team Academic All-State certificate from the Soccer Coaches Association and will enter Huntington as an HU Honor Student with a major in exercise science. He is the son of Scott and Shelley Schenkel. 

“Chris, Brandon and Austin will bring an intelligence and work rate that will raise the competitive level of our team,” said Coach Lawson. “We are fortunate to land three of the top players in Fort Wayne.  Not only do they bring with them a lot of talent and experience from a winning program, but they also have a built-in cohesion from playing together for several years. These young men have been committed to the game and their coaches at Northrop and Citadel FC have prepared each of them well for collegiate soccer.”

Huntington University is a Christian liberal arts university located in Huntington, IN with an enrollment of approximately 1200 students.  Athletically, HU is a member of the Mid Central Conference (MCC) and competes in fourteen NAIA intercollegiate sports for both men and women.
