Russ Lawson
Head Coach
Head
coach, Russ Lawson, enters his ninth season at the helm of the Huntington
University men's soccer program. Lawson, who also serves
as Coordinator of Recreational Programming and Intramural Director, graduated from Huntington
in 1991 with a degree in Business Management. He currently holds
an Advanced National Diploma from the NSCAA and a class D license from the
United States Soccer Federation.
As a three-year
starter for the Foresters, Lawson was a member of two of the
most successful soccer teams in the program’s history.
The 1988-89 team went 14-6 during his sophomore season, and 20-5
the following year, which included a Mid-Central Conference
co-Championship, NCCAA District III and NAIA District 21
Championships, and a third place finish at the NCCAA National
Tournament. Lawson was selected as an MCC All-Conference
midfielder during his final two seasons.
Lawson is
looking forward to another successful season. “I am
excited and very appreciative to have the opportunity to
play a role in impacting HU’s student-athletes and the community.”
Lawson and his
wife Heidi, a Huntington native and HU alum, have two children, Levi
and Ellie.
Taylor
Zeman
Assistant Coach
Taylor Zeman is entering his first season as an assistant coach
for the Foresters.
Zeman will provide assistance with practices, player
development, recruiting and administrative tasks.
As a center midfielder for the Foresters, Zeman controlled the
tempo of the game and was a master at distributing the ball to
his teammates. His senior season he led the MCC in assists
with 13 and was ranked sixth in the nation (NAIA Division I) in
assists per game (0.720). As a player, his passion and
tactical approach to the game was unmatched and will undoubtedly
serve him well as an assistant coach.
Coach Lawson is excited to have Zeman join the Forester coaching
staff. "Taylor is a fantastic addition to the program,"
commented Lawson. "He will challenge and inspire our players to
reach new heights both individually and collectively as a team."
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Zeman graduated from HU with a BS
in Recreation Management in 2010. Outside of soccer, Zeman
volunteers his time to various ministries in Huntington.
