It took all nine
matches to determine a winner as the Foresters edged Kalamazoo Valley
Community College 5-4. After winning two of three doubles, HC needed
sophomore Daron Short to come from behind to secure the victory.
Dropping the first set 6-1, Short rallied to win the second set 6-3.
With the third set even at five, he played two big games to take the
win.
With #1 player Tyler
Moore sidelined with an injury, the Foresters were forced to move
everyone up one position and rearrange the doubles teams. “We knew
that we would have to step it up a bit if we were going to win,” said
Coach Turner. “KVCC is a solid team and I knew we would just have to
concentrate and believe in ourselves.”
Short and Ross
Blakely were both double winners on the day. Short also teamed with
Jason Stump at #2 doubles for the 8-3 win. Blakely and partner
Brandon Curtis won 8-5 at #3 doubles and then Blakely quickly put away
his opponent 6-1, 6-1 at #6 singles.
