- Earlier in
the season, the Foresters eked out a 5-4 win over Grace College, but
this time it was a different story as HU dominated almost every match
for an easy 8-1 win on Homecoming weekend. But, one of the most
important matches was at #1 singles where sophomore Tyler Moore lost a
tough match to Landon Reifsnider, 6-4, 7-6. "This was a key match for
Tyler in his come back from injuries a year ago," said Coach Turner.
“Tyler has a lot of heart and it was good to see him play two solid
sets today.”
In singles play,
the Foresters won five straight-set matches. Mitchell McDonald
and Brian Lambright won by identical 6-4, 6-0 scores at #2 and #4
respectively. Daron Short went 6-4, 6-2 at #3, Jason Stump
continued his winning ways with the 6-3, 6-4 victory at #5 and Adam
Widener blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #6. In doubles, Moore
and Lambright won 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 at #1, Short and Dustin Ecker
finished 7-5, 6-1, and Stump and McDonald went 6-2, 6-3 at #3.
“All of the other
guys played well and I am proud of them, but Tyler has had to work
through so much adversity and he is really progressing well.”
The Foresters crept
over the .500 mark to end the regular season at 6-5, a big improvement
over last year's record of 4-11. |
