03.29.08 - The Forester men's tennis team opened its spring season
with a solid 6-3 win over Cedarville University. The win evens
the men's overall record at 7-7 on the year.
Despite playing in
cold and windy conditions, HU was able to split the singles and then
swept the doubles' matches to get the win. The top four singles
matches all went three sets. Leading the way for the Foresters was
senior co-captain Tyler Moore who pulled out a tough three-setter 6-3,
3-6, 6-3 at #1. Moore then teamed with Gonzalo Vivas to win handily at
#1 doubles 8-1.
Adam Widener and Matt Cable were the other two double winners on the
day. Widener won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at #4 singles and then paired
with Mitchell McDonald for the 8-5 victory at #2 doubles. Cable
won 6-3, 6-4 at #6 singles and then pulled out the 9-7 win with Keaton
McDonald at #3 doubles.
"We played extremely well for our first spring match," said Coach
Turner. "I was pleased with our level of consistency. The weather
made it tough for both teams but we seemed to handle the wind a little
better." |
