05.02.05 - HC's Kaley Fode hit a dramatic 13th-inning homerun and then the Foresters held the Goshen College Maple Leafs in their at-bat to earn the 4-3 win and advance as the #8-seed into the Mid-Central Conference Tournament.  HC (7-25) will face the #1 seed, Indiana Wesleyan, in first round action of the double elimination tourney on Wednesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m.

The Foresters, who hadn't played a game in almost two weeks, got things started early with a run in the top of the first.  Goshen tied it up with one in the bottom of third and went up 2-1 with another run in the fifth.  HC immediately answered with one in the sixth to knot the score at 2-2, and a scoreless seventh sent them into extra innings.  Things looked good for the Foresters when they scrambled for a run in the top of the eighth, but the Maple Leafs responded with a run of their own.  The battle continued through four more scoreless innings until Fode broke the tie for good with her shot over the right-center field fence in the 13th.

Liz Rapone, who came on in relief of starter, Kendra Stahl, allowed just one hit and no runs over the final five innings to pick up the victory for HC.  The Foresters were out-hit 11-6 in the game, but the six hits combined with five free passes were just enough to get the job done.  HC's defense also aided the cause by committing just one error in 13 innings of play.  Fode had two hits, two RBI and scored two runs to lead the Forester offense.  Kala Parthemore also had two hits in the game for HC.

Other first round match-ups in tomorrow's MCC Tournament include #2 Spring Arbor vs. #7 Grace, #3 Bethel vs. #6 St. Francis, and #4 Marian vs. #5 Taylor.
