04.27.07 - The Foresters edged Taylor University by a run in both games of the doubleheader to end the regular season with a 5-4 and 6-5 sweep.  HU improved to 15-18 on the season and were 8-8 to finish fifth in the MCC standings.

HU scored a run in the top of the first to begin game one and then took advantage of three hits and two Trojan errors to plated three more in the second.  Taylor closed to within one with a pair of runs on the bottom of the second and another score in the third.

The Foresters picked up an insurance run in the fifth. Brittney Bateman bunted and reached third on a Taylor throwing error and then Stacy Socha bunted for a hit to score Bateman.  The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, but Ashley Scally got Laurie Shumaker to ground out to the shortstop before they could do more damage.

Scally went the distance in the win for HU.  She gave up four runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out three.  Laura Baas went 2-3 at the plate, including a double for the Foresters and she drove in two runs.

Both teams got the bats going early in game two.  HU started the scoring with two runs in the top of the first and the Trojans answered with three in their first at-bat.  The Foresters were still trailing by one after trading a run with Taylor in the third.  Bateman gave HU a 6-4 lead with a one-out three-run homerun to right in the top of the fifth.  The Trojans threatened again scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh, but this time Lauren Ward thwarted the rally with a game-ending strike out.

Bateman, Kendra Stahl and Socha each had three hits in the game.  Along with her homerun, Bateman added a double and a team-high four RBI.  Ward got the win for HU.  She gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out four.
