- The Foresters swept a doubleheader from Grace College with a 3-0 win
in game one and a come-from-behind 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Lauren Ward threw a
three-hit complete game shutout to knock off the Lancers. She
also recorded 10 strikeouts in the contest. HU put a pair of
runs on the board in the top of the third on a two-run double by
Brittany Gower. Gower then gave the Foresters an insurance run
in the fifth when she singled up the middle to score Brittney Bateman.
HU out-hit Grace 9-3 in the game. Gower
and Bateman each had three hits in the game to lead the team at the
plate.
In the nightcap, the Foresters were
down 2-0 heading into their final at-bat, but they came up with three
runs in the top of the seventh to get the 3-2 comeback win. HU
opened the inning with four consecutive singles from Bateman, Gower,
Ashley McCann and Keri Badenhop to score the three runs.
In the bottom of the seventh, Ashley
Scally got out of a base-loaded jam to pick up her second straight
victory on the mound for the Foresters. She allowed two runs on
six hits while striking out four. No one had more than one hit
for HU, but McCann had a game-high two RBI.
The two wins move the Foresters to
10-14-1 on the season and 7-7 in the MCC.
