- HU junior pitcher, Lauren Ward, recorded the second no-hitter of her
career as a Forester in a 1-0 win over Indiana Wesleyan University.
HU dropped the second game 9-1 to the Wildcats.
The Foresters got the only run in the
opener in their first at-bat. Kendra Stahl led off the inning
with a double to the gap in left-center. Brittney Bateman bunted
for a hit and moved Stahl to third and then Brittany Gower drove in
Stahl with a single down the leftfield line. It was all the
offense Ward would need to notch her fifth victory of the season.
Ward faced 23 batters in the game and
struck out 10 while walking two. Bateman went 3-3 at the plate to lead
HU.
In game two, the Wildcats struck first
with a pair of runs in the top of the third. The two teams
traded one in the fourth and then IWU put the game out of reach with
four in the fifth and two more in the sixth brought the game to an
early conclusion.
Ward took the loss for HU. She
gave up two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two in
two and two-thirds innings. Ashley Scally and Janalee Boroff
accounted for all four of HU's hits with two apiece.
With the split, the Foresters are
5-11-1 on the season and 3-5 in the MCC.
