- On their fourth day of games in Tucson, Arizona, the Foresters went
2-1 with a 6-0 loss to NAIA 5th-ranked Dickinson State to begin the
day followed by a 12-4 win over Cardinal Stritch and a 10-4 victory
over Mayville State.
In game one, HU managed just four hits
against the 5th-ranked Blue Hawks and committed two errors that led to
three unearned Dickinson State runs.
The Blue Hawks scored once in the
second and fourth and then took control of the game with three runs in
the fifth. With one more insurance run in the sixth, Dickinson
State closed out the 6-0 win.
Lauren Ward went the distance in the
loss. She allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks while
striking out six.
In their second game of the day, the
Foresters used a 7-run fourth inning to earn the come-from-behind
victory over Cardinal Stritch. The Wolves had a big first inning
scoring four runs, but it was all they would get.
HU got one back in their half of the
first and pulled within one with a pair of runs in the third.
The Foresters then broke the game open with their fourth inning
onslaught. HU took advantage of six singles, three walks and two
passed balls to score the seven runs and then held Cardinal Stritch
scoreless the final two and a half innings.
Molly Long picked up the win for the
Foresters in relief of Ashley Scally. She threw three and a
third scoreless innings and allowed just one hit while striking out
five. Jeanine Vaszari went 3-4 at the plate to lead HU and
Ashley McCann drove in a game-high three runs.
The Foresters' final game of the day
was a rematch with Mayville State and they earned the sweep with the
12-4 win in five innings.
HU scored three in the first, but the
Comets battled back to take a 4-3 lead with a pair of runs in the
second and third. Brita Kuiper put the Foresters back on top for
good with a two-run blast to left in the bottom of the third. HU
put together seven hits including a leadoff homerun by Ward for five
runs in the fourth and then ended the game early with two more runs in
the fifth.
Long notched her second win of the day.
She threw all five innings and allowed four runs on six hits while
striking our four. Vaszari and Kuiper both had three hits in the
contest for HU and Brittany Gower had two hits, including a
triple, and a team-leading three RBI.
At the end of the day, the Foresters
stood at 6-3 on the season. |
