04.11.09 - Timely hitting played a factor in both games of a doubleheader between the Foresters and Indiana Wesleyan University with HU winning game one 3-0 and the Wildcats taking game two 5-4.

In the opener, the game was scoreless until the Foresters ended the stalemate with three runs in the top of the sixth.  Brittney Bateman and Brittany Gower both bunted for a hit to start the inning and Ashley McCann laid down a sacrifice bunt to move them up a base. Brita Kuiper then came up with a clutch triple to deep left to drive in the pair. Keri Badenhop came to the plate next and singled to right to score Kuiper.

HU pitcher Molly Long kept the shutout intact through the Wildcats final two at-bats to get the complete game victory. She allowed five hits in the contest, walked one and struck out nine.  Gower and Badenhop each had two hits in the game for the Foresters and Kuiper had a game-high two RBI.

HU looked to have game two under control heading into the bottom of the seventh with a 4-2 lead and needing just three outs for the sweep.  IWU had other ideas. The Wildcats came up with three singles to go along with an HU throwing error and a passed ball to score three runs and earn the split.

Lauren Ward couldn't overcome five errors by the defense and took the loss on the mound for the Foresters.  She threw 6 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out nine.  No one had more than one hit for HU, but McCann drove in two runs in the game.

With the split, the Foresters now stand at 16-12 on the season and 4-6 in the MCC.
