04.01.09 - Ashley McCann provided five hits and five RBI while Lauren Ward and Molly Long supplied solid performances on the mound to help the Foresters sweep the University of St. Francis 6-2 and 7-3 in MCC play.

In game one, HU used two hits and some aggressive baserunning to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  In the third, McCann singled to center to drive in two of her four RBI in the game giving the Foresters a 4-0 advantage. HU then picked up two insurance runs in the fifth for a 6-0 lead, but gave two back in the top of the sixth for a 6-2 final.

Ward got the complete-game victory.  She allowed two runs on five hits and a walk.  She struck out 13 batters to make it three straight outings with double digit strikeouts.  Jeanine Vasari and Brittany Gower each had three hits to lead the Foresters at the plate and McCann had four RBI.

HU used a big second inning to take control of game two.  The Foresters began the inning with five consecutive hits including four singles and a double by Megan Smith to score three runs.  HU then took advantage of a Cougar error and another hit to plate two more before the inning ended.  St. Francis got one back in the top of the fifth and the two teams traded a pair of runs in their final at-bats to end it 7-3.

Although Long gave up 10 hits, she got good help from her defense to hold St. Francis to just three runs.  She also struck out eight Cougars and had no walks.  McCann paced the Foresters with three hits in the contest.

The two wins give HU a 10-8 record on the season and a 2-2 mark in the MCC.
