- The Foresters traveled to Chicago to compete in the Judson
University Softball Invitational and came away with four wins.
On Friday, they knocked off the host Eagles 5-4 and Trinity
International 8-2 and beat Trinity Christian 4-0 and downed Judson
again 2-1 on Saturday. In the
opening game, HU got off to a quick start with four runs in their
first two at-bats, but Judson knotted the score with two in the
third and fifth. In their final at-bat, the Foresters got a lead-off
double from Brittany Gower and one-out later Brita Kuiper drove her
in with a single up the middle to win the game.
Lauren Ward went the distance in the
win for the Foresters. She allowed four runs on five hits and a walk
while striking out nine. Gower went 3-4 at the plate with two
RBI.
In game two, HU and Trinity
International each scored a run in the first, but the Foresters
added another in the second, four more in the fourth and a pair of
runs in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. The Trojans got their second
unearned run of the game in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-2
final.
Molly Long picked up the win for HU.
She gave up two unearned runs on just three hits while striking out
11 in six innings of work. Gower and Brittney Bateman both had two
hits in the game and Kuiper drove in two runs to lead the Foresters.
On Saturday morning, Ashley Scally
and Long combined for a one-hit shutout over Trinity Christian.
Scally held the Trolls scoreless through three and a third innings
for the win. She gave up just one hit and three walks while
striking out four. Long came on in relief and blanked Trinity
Christian over the final three and a two-thirds innings allowing no
hits or runs and striking out seven.
HU plated a run in the first and
third and tacked on two more in the fourth in the win. Ashley
McCann led the Foresters with two hits including a double.
In the final game of the tournament,
HU faced off with Judson for the second time and Ward pitched
another gem to give the Foresters the 2-1 victory. She allowed
one run on three hits and a walk with striking out 10 Eagles.
Bateman accounted for a significant
proportion of HU's offense in the game. She put the Foresters
in front early with a homerun in the first and she drove in HU's
second run with a single in the third. Judson manufactured a run in
the fourth, but Ward held the Eagles scoreless the remainder of the
game.
With the four wins, HU improves to 14-8 on
the season. |
