06.23.09 - Huntington University softball coach Doug Gower announced that Norwell High School standout, Melissa Werling, has signed a Letter of Intent to play softball for the Foresters next year.

The catcher earned Third Team All-State honors as a junior and received First Team All-Conference honors in the Northeast Hoosier Conference as a sophomore and junior.  As a Knight, Werling holds eight career offensive records which include most runs (125), hits (111), triples (14) and home runs (8).  She also tops Norwell's career record books with 53 walks, 106 stolen bases, a .551 slugging percentage and a .448 on base average.

Gower is excited about the skills and abilities Werling brings to the program.  "Melissa is an excellent athlete who will bring quickness and aggressive play to the Foresters' line-up.  She has the potential to be a very good player for us. We're glad to have her join our program."
