Foresters Ousted From MCC Tourney
5/2/02

As the eighth seed in the MCC Softball Tournament, the Foresters had to face the top-seeded Lady Pilots of Bethel College in the first round of the double-elimination tournament and fell 8-0.  The loss put HC in the loser's bracket for their next game, where they met St. Francis.  The Cougars scored at least one run in each inning on their way to a 9-1 win, ousting the Foresters from the tournament.  The women conclude their season with a 5-31 record.

IPFW Sweeps Foresters
4/30/02

The Foresters took a 2-0 lead early in both games of the doubleheader, but were unable to hold off the Mastodons of IPFW, falling 4-3 and 11-2.  Adrienne Bender, Amy Brown, Emily Burkholder, and Kristie Davidson each had two hits on the day to lead HC.  In game one, Liz Rapone gave up four runs, two earned, on eight hits and two walks, while striking out six.  Emily Burkholder took the loss in game two after giving up 11 runs, six unearned, on eight hits and six walks.  The Foresters finish their regular season with a 5-29 record.  On Thursday, May 2, #8 HC will play #1 Bethel at 10:00 a.m. in the first round of the MCC Softball Tournament.  Other first round matchups include #2 IWU vs. #7 Grace, #3 Marian vs. #6 Taylor, and #4 St. Francis vs. #5 Goshen.

Foresters Get Split With Olivet
4/27/02

The Foresters got on top the Comets of Olivet College early in the first game and held on for the 8-6 win, but couldn't come up with hits in key situations in game two and fell 12-2.  In game one, HC scored three in the bottom of the first to take the early lead, but Olivet got three in the top of the third to tie the game.  The Foresters answered back with three more runs on five hits in their half of the third and added one in the fourth and one in the fifth to put the game out of reach.  Amy Brown led the Foresters with three hits in the game, and Jami Halsey added two hits and 3 RBI.  Liz Rapone got the win for HC giving up seven hits and three walks, while striking out three.  In game two, the Comets scored nine runs in the first inning and never looked back.  The Foresters managed just three hits in the game, and unlike game one, couldn't come up with key hits with runners in scoring position.  Emily Burkholder took the loss for the Foresters.  The women are now 5-27 on the season.

Warriors Shutout Foresters
4/25/02

Unable to get the bats going, the Foresters were shut out by the Indiana Tech Lady Warriors 8-0 and 16-0.  In the first game, both teams had five hits, but the Foresters made three errors that led to seven unearned runs for Indiana Tech.  The second game was more of the same with HC committing five miscues that resulted in nine unearned runs.  With the two losses, the women fall to 4-26 on the season.

Pumas Nail Foresters
4/23/02

The Pumas of St. Joseph's College went an the attack and crushed the Foresters 10-0 and 8-0 in their doubleheader matchup.  Strong pitching from the St. Joseph's staff proved too much for the Foresters as SJC's Beth Nix pitched a no-hitter in the first game and Jenny Willig threw a one-hitter in the second game.  The Foresters also struggled in the field again with ten errors combined for the two games.  Coach Tribolet was very disappointed with the team's effort.  "You don't score any runs only getting one hit.  This was probably our poorest effort of the season,"  said Coach Tribolet.  The two losses drop the women to 4-24 on the season.

Foresters Split With Ancilla CC
4/20/02

The Foresters were able to hold off Ancilla Junior College in the bottom of the seventh in game one to win 4-3, but fell 3-2 in game two.  In the first game, Adrienne Bender, who had three hits, doubled in Renae Flora in the top of the seventh for what turned out to be the game-winning run.  Ancilla scored one in their last at bat, but came up short, giving the Foresters the 4-3 win.  Lindsey Reinking went the distance for HC, giving up two earned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two.  In game two, the Foresters scored a run in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 2 to force extra innings, but then gave up the game winner in the bottom of the eighth.  Despite the loss, Liz Rapone pitched a solid game giving up five hits and three walks, while striking out two.  Since Ancilla is a junior college, the games do not count in the Forester's win-loss record.

Foresters Fall to Grace
4/17/02

Lack of hitting and costly errors again led to HC's demise as they fell to Grace College 5-1 and 8-0.  The Foresters had only five hits in two games and committed eleven errors which led to eleven unearned runs.  The team also was dealt a big blow when Amy Brown  separated her shoulder while diving into second on a stolen base attempt.  Brown will now join fellow senior Candace Cooper, who has been plagued by a shoulder injury all season, on the sidelines. The Foresters will hope to regroup for the conference tournament in early May.  The women are now 4-22 on the season and finished the conference schedule at 2-12.

Foresters Split With St. Francis
4/16/02

The Foresters put together their best game of season to get a 6-2 win over St. Francis, but then struggled to a 15-2 loss in the nightcap.  Lindsay Reinking went the distance in the first game to pick up the win for the Foresters, and helped herself by knocking in three runs with a double and a single in the game.  Kristie Davidson and Jami Halsey each collected two hits for the Foresters as well.  In game two, HC managed just two hits and scored its only runs on a single by Amy Brown in the third.  The Foresters also struggled defensively, committing three errors that led to 11 unearned runs.  Liz Rapone Took the loss for HC.  The women are now 4-20 on the year and 2-10 in the MCC.

HC Gets First MCC Win
4/13/02

After falling 8-3 in the first game, the Foresters came through with some key hits in the bottom of the seventh to get the 6-5 win over Goshen College.  HC was leading 4-1 heading into the last inning, but found themselves down 5-4 three outs later.  With one gone in the bottom of the seventh, Amy Brown got things started with a walk and then stole second.  She scored on a single by Kristie Davidson.  Then with two outs in the inning, Emily Burkholder singled and moved to second on an illegal pitch.  Jami Halsey then delivered a double to left, which scored Burkholder to win the game.  Liz Rapone got the win for the Foresters, giving up one earned run on seven hits.  In the first game of the doubleheader, HC scored one in the bottom of the first to take the early lead.  Goshen scored one in the top of the third to tie it and then took the lead with another run in the fifth.  Down 3-1 through sixth innings, the Foresters were still within striking distance, but gave up five runs in the top of the seventh which put the game out of reach.  The women are now 3-19 on the season and 1-9 in the MCC.

Foresters Show Improvement
4/11/02

The Foresters took an early lead by scoring in the first inning of both games with Indiana Wesleyan, but were unable to hold off the Wildcats and fell 4-2 and 6-1.  In the opening game, HC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a bases loaded single by Jami Halsey and a base loaded walk by Lindsay Reinking.  The Wildcats got one in the second and one in the third to tie the game at 2-2, then took the lead with two more runs in the fourth.  Reinking gave up just one earned run in the game on seven hits, while striking out five.  In game two, six HC errors led to four unearned runs and spoiled a solid pitching performance by freshman, Liz Rapone.  Rapone gave up just two earned runs on eight hits and three strike outs.  The Foresters scored their lone run of the game on an RBI single by Emily Burkholder in the top of the first.  IWU answered with one of their own in their half of the first, and then scored two more in the third and three in the fourth to get the 6-1 win.  The two losses drop the Foresters to 2-18 on the season and 0-8 in the conference.

Foresters Sweep Calumet College
4/6/02

Twenty-six hits and a spotless defense spurred the Foresters on to their first two wins of the season as they defeated Calumet College 10-1 and 11-3.  In the first game of the day, HC got on the board early scoring six runs on five hits in the first inning.  Five freshmen accounted for ten of the eleven hits in the game.  Emily Schweikhardt led the way with three hits including a double and a triple, Adrienne Bender, Renae Flora, and Liz Rapone each collected two hits and Melanie Zehr had a double.  Rapone went the distance for the Foresters giving up just one run on four hits.  In game two, the Forester upperclassmen took over what the freshmen had started.  Junior Hope Guyton banged out three hits, while seniors Amy Brown and Jami Halsey each had two.  Six of HC's 15 hits went for extra bases.  Guyton, Kristie Davidson, and Emily Burkholder (2) doubled, Lindsey Reinking tripled and Brown had an inside the park homerun.  Reinking gave up three runs on six hits to picked up her first win of the season.  With the two wins, the women improve to 2-16 on the season.

Foresters Remain Winless
4/4/02

Hitting that was colder than the weather kept the Foresters in the losing column as they were shutout 6-0 and 10-0 by Bethel College.  Although their defense was better, HC's offense managed just 3 hits on the day, two in game one and one in game two.  The Foresters lack of offense in game one spoiled a solid performance on the mound by Lindsay Reinking who gave up just five hits.  Liz Rapone took the loss in game two.  The women have no wins against sixteen losses and are 0-6 in the MCC.

Foresters Drop two to Taylor
4/3/02

On a cold spring afternoon, the women's softball team committed 14 errors on their way to losing both games of a doubleheader to Taylor University 13-1 and 13-5.  The Lady Trojan pitchers allowed just seven Forester hits on the day, while HC staff gave up 19.  In game one, both teams were scoreless through four innings.  Taylor took the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth, and then put the game out of reach with four more in the sixth.  In the nightcap, HC scored two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the score, but the Lady Trojans plated five in the top of the third, which would prove to be all they would need to secure the sweep.  The two loses drop the Foresters to 0-14 overall and 0-4 in the MCC.

Foresters Winless on Spring Break Trip
3/23-29/02

The women's softball team played eight games during their spring break trip, but were unable to put one in the win column.  They played two games at Trevecca Nazarene in Tennessee on their way to Florida and lost 11-3 and 3-0.  HC had more hits in the first game, but were not able to capitalize on them.  Trevecca Nazarene pitcher Lisa Hethorn no-hit the Foresters in the second game of the doubleheader.  At the University of West Florida, HC met Lindenwood University three times during the week and fell 10-0, 5-0, and 11-4.  Missouri Rolla, William Woods, and West Florida also bested the Foresters 10-2, 8-1, and 9-0 respectively.  The women fall to 0-12 on the season.

Knights Shutout Foresters
3/20/02

Marian College's Lindsay Lockhart pitched both games of the doubleheader and gave up just three hits on the day to shut out the Foresters 9-0 and 8-0.  In game one, the Knights scored nine runs on 13 hits and one HC error, while the Foresters managed just two hits.  In the second game, Lockhart picked up where she left off, giving up just one hit and one walk on her way to picking up her second shutout of the day.  Marian scored eight runs in the second game, however all of them were unearned as HC committed five errors in the game.  The losses drop the women to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the MCC.

Foresters Drop Two in Season Opener
3/13/02

In their 2002 debut, the Forester softball team dropped a pair of one-run games, 2-1 and 4-3, to Manchester College.  In the first game of the doubleheader, Manchester scored two unearned runs on two Foresters errors to take the lead in the bottom of the second and gave up just one run in the top of the sixth to hang on for the win.  Despite the loss, Lindsay Reinking pitched an outstanding game giving up seven hits, while striking out four and allowing just one walk.  HC out-hit the Squires 8 to 7, but were not able to come up with a critical hit when it was needed.  In the nightcap, the Foresters got another strong pitching performance from Liz Rapone and out-hit Manchester 9 to 6, but again were unable to get the timely hits needed to win the game.  HC got on the board first by scoring two in the top of the second, but Manchester answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.  HC tied the game at three in the top of the fifth and then took the Squires to extra innings before giving up a run in the bottom of the eighth.  Two Foresters, Amy Brown and Reinking, collected four hits apiece on the day.  Coach Tribolet found several positives in their opening doubleheader.  "The team played well in both games and our pitchers pitched well for their first outing.  The two errors cost us in the first game, but you need to consider that we are playing 4 to 6 freshmen every game.  We just need experience", said Coach Tribolet.
