03.01.05 - Three
Huntington College track and field athletes will compete in the NAIA
Indoor Track and Field National Championships to be held March 3-5, 2005,
in Johnson City, Tenn. Joel Sanders, Cody Hannie, and Brittany Fillman all
met qualifying times in their respective races that were set by the NAIA
(National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) at the beginning of
the season.

Joel Sanders |
Joel Sanders, a
freshman elementary education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High
School), qualified in the men’s 1000 meter run with a time of 2:33.63
on February 5 at DePauw University. Sanders,
who broke two indoor school records during his first season in the 800
meters and the 1000 meters, is seeded 14th in the national
race. He will toe the line for the preliminary race in his national
debut on Friday at 4:55 p.m. Finals will be held Saturday at 1:55
p.m.

Cody Hannie |
Cody Hannie, a
sophomore English education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High
School), qualified in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:58.91 on
February 5
at
DePauw University. Hannie, who is seeded 30th,
will run in the semi-final on Friday at
5:40 p.m.
Finals are set for Saturday at 2:20 p.m. This marks Hannie’s second
appearance in as many years at the indoor national championship.

Brittany Fillman |
Brittany Fillman, a
sophomore English education major from Markle, Ind. (Norwell High
School), qualified in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:39.75 on
February 5 at
DePauw University. Fillman is currently seeded 16th
in the national race and will run in the semi-final at 3:20 p.m. on
Friday. Finals are set for Saturday at 1:05 p.m. This marks Fillman’s
indoor national debut. She raced in the Forester 4x800 relay at the
2004 NAIA Outdoor National Championships last May.
