04.29-30.05 - At the Mid-Central Conference Championships this
weekend, six Foresters, three men and three women, turned in performances
to garner All-Conference honors.
In women's action, Brittany Fillman and
Jennifer Shook each won an event to earn their selection. Fillman
crossed the line first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.60 and
Shook had a personal best of 118-05 in the discus to win the event after
entering as the third seed. Shook also added a sixth place finish in
the shot, again with a personal best mark of 34-03.50. Heidi
Christner, who would have had a great start in a decathlon, earned her
honors by accumulating 15.25 points in six of seven events for HC.
She was fifth in three events (200 m, 28.07; high jump, 4-10.25; and
triple jump, 31-06.75) and eighth in the 100 (13.40). She ran a leg
of the 4x400 relay (Christi Shook, Fillman, Courtney Gullickson, Christner)
that finished second and she also ran a leg of the 4x100 relay (C. Shook,
Lisa Isabelli, Fillman, Christner) that came in sixth. She just
missed scoring in the javelin where she placed ninth.
Other top four finishes for the women included
Emily Sealscott, who was third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:31.01,
Christi Shook, who placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:23.13,
Melissa McFadden, who was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 32-0,
and Isabelli, who finished fourth in the hammer with her toss of 126-09.
The women's 4x800 relay (Fillman, Shook, Gullickson, Brittany Harvey)
finished third in 9:43.24.
Indiana Wesleyan University took the women's
team title with 217.50 points followed by Bethel (149.50), Taylor (141),
Huntington (84), Goshen (64), Marian (59), Spring Arbor (45.5), St.
Francis (35), and Grace (21.5).
On the men's side, David St. Louis won the
3000 meter steeplechase (9:47.95) and Joel Sanders took the 800 meter run
(1:54.36) to earn their All-Conference honors. Cody Hannie was an
at-large selection having earned 16.5 points for HC. Individually he
finished second in the 1500 meter run (4:01.18) and fourth in the 800
meter run (1:56.40). He was a member of the 4x800 relay (St. Louis,
Sanders, Ross Luckett, Hannie) that not only won the event, but broke the
school record to boot with their time of 7:55.01. The previous
record of 7:57.00 was set back in 1994 by Jason Jackson, Jay Weiseman,
Matt Lister, and John Walz. Hannie also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay
(Jared Neale, Luckett, Sanders, Hannie) that finished fifth with a time of
3:33.66.
Other scorers for the Foresters were Joseph
Waithira, who added two fifth place finishes in the 5000 meter (16:08.90)
and the 10,000 meter (33:09.10) and Luckett, who came in fifth in the 3000
meter steeplechase in 10:10.56. HC's 4x100 relay (Kyle Wood, Neale,
Luckett, Sanders) also placed fifth with a time of 45.70.
Taylor University ran away with the men's team
title with a score of 247. Bethel finished second with 159.50 points
followed by Indiana Wesleyan (131), Goshen (90.50), HC (63), St. Francis
(51), Marian (47), Spring Arbor (21) and Grace (4). |
